Minimum Household Cleaning Toolkit
As an old housewife, I can tell you that there are lots and lots of cleaning devices and substances which are not a must for keeping your home very clean. I’m obsessed with cleanliness, so I suppose this is an advice you can trust and follow: get rid of the impulse buying habit! You don’t need a special substance to clean your glasses, another one for the kitchen floor and something else for the doors and windows. Universal cleaners can do all these, and you have to pay only once.
Do you really need a dust feather, a dust cloth and dust wipes of unique use? I think the dust feather is enough. However, if you don’t like to wash it often, and if you can afford, one use wipes are the best. They are also better for yout hygiene, as they don’t give a chance to bacteria and mold spores to accumulate.
What about the vacuum cleaner? Well, my grandmother didn’t have any, and her home was still clean, but I’d strongly recommend that you buy yourself a good vacuum cleaner. The suction power and the cleaning system are very important, as they can save you a lot of time. You can also consider a household steam cleaner, but make sure you get a powerful one, so you can be more efficient.
Toilet cleaners are a must, because of their special germicide formula. Make sure you handle them with latex gloves. If you are allergic to latex, use other kind of gloves, but don’t let your skin get in contact with that substance. It can be harmful.
Do we still need a broom? Well, I have one, but I barely use it. Vacuum cleaners and steam cleaners do a great job already, so the broom can miss. However, if you break a plate or a glass, you’ll find it difficult to remove all the glass debris from your floors with your vacuum cleaner. Big pieces of glass cannot be sucked in, so you’ll have to use your hands, or a broom, if you have it.
Upholstery cleaning substances: i’ve found them highly ineffective. Once your couch gets dirty, then dirty it will remain, until you buy a new one. Stains will go away with the special textile shampoo, but residual dirt won’t. Here, I found steam cleaners to be effective. They can clean a dirty upholstery, and make it in an uniform way. So, why pay for expensive detergents when the vapor power can help you defeat the dirt?

I really enjoyed reading your article. It’s so true. Manufacturers make u believe that u need to buy something different for everything. I once was suckered into that but I’ve started to smarten up:)
